Barrières, Barrières, Barrières
Seattle Bamboo is consulting on a bamboo issue in Kurt Cobain’s neighborhood. A client’s neighbor has bamboo on their property close to the property line.
The neighbor’s bamboo has escaped at least once as evidenced by two barriers in place. One appears to have been placed when the bamboo was planted, the other after the first one failed.
Now rhizomes have escaped again and at least one has traveled under the neighbor’s hardscaping and is growing between the home and a concrete and brick stairway. We will report on this further in the future.
These images are of the types of damage that suggest that plastic barriers to bamboo growth are insufficient and not a strategic containment method. Barriers deflect and re-direct bamboo growth underground and even at their best confine a rhizomatous plant, in this case a giant grass.
