4. Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' has yellow culms with a green groove, the opposite of aureosulcata "Yellow Groove." Some culms will have a reddish color when exposed to sun. Young culm internodes are rough to the touch and occasionally have a zigzag kink. Some leaves will have a thin white stripe. Used primarily for screening and ornamental plantings. Some clones flowered in the mid 1990s. This bamboo was introduced into the U.S. in 1986 by way of Germany. Maximum Height: 26', Maximum Diameter: 1 1/2", Minimum Temperature: -10° F ,Does best in full sun. Spreading: Both robust and sought after. In a "pot in pot" system, this bamboo could support itself in a few years.
